This Blog is about the ABC’s of PRODUCTIVITY

B is for BATCHING

The definition of Batching is a group of things or people dealt with at the same time or considered similar in type

“I made  a fresh batch of homemade cookies”.

“We looked at the job applications in two batches”.

Have you ever grilled vegetables? Did you wash, peel, cut & grill one vegetable at a time or did you wash ALL, peel ALL, then cut ALL…? You get the picture. That is what we call “BATCHING”. We get more things done if we repeat 1 task over and over again. Want to have a salad every day of the week but no time to do it? Try batching it instead. {hint: usee hearty leaves & veggies so it doesn’t get mealy}. Find yourself doing laundry every day and getting nothing else accomplished? Choose 1 day to do ALL of it. Trust me, not only will you get all of it done but you will be more productive.

HERE ARE 8 BENEFITS OF TIME BATCHING

1. Improves Focus

As mentioned, time batching leads to better focus. When you switch your focus between two things, you take longer getting back into the zone with each task. This wastes precious focus and time.

2. Waste Less Time

Think about making dinner. If you cut up one vegetable, cooked it, and then moved onto cutting the next, then cooking that vegetable, then onto the next, you’d be in the kitchen all day. Instead, try batching. Cut all the veggies at once. Then cook all the veggies at once. This saves time & energy. Now do this with your work and watch all the time you get back.

3. Work Faster with Time Restraint

When you know you have 2 months to do something, you take 2 months to do it. If you only had 1 week to get that same thing done, you’d magically get it done in a week. When you have a time restraint, you get things done faster.

4. Saves Time by Eliminating Start and Stop Time

You waste a substantial amount of time starting & stopping projects. The time to get focused, familiarize yourself with where you left off, and to get back in the zone again is more than you realize. Eliminate this by doing all related projects in one go.

5. Lessen Procrastination & Distraction

If you’re in the zone, knocking out all of one type of work, you’ll be less likely to procrastinate or get distracted. You won’t want to stop once you get started. You’ll want to get it all done at once.

6. Reduces Mental Clutter

Your mind goes nuts when you have a bunch to do, but when you can batch your work; suddenly you have much less to worry about. Batching leads to less clutter.

7. Less Anxiety-Stress Over Large Projects

When you break huge projects into batches, it suddenly becomes less daunting. An example can be starting a blog. That may sound daunting, but if you group research together, design together, writing together, and social media together, it seems like a lot less and more attainable to manage.

8. Fewer Errors

When you’re focusing solely on one task, you’re much less likely to make mistakes. Switching between tasks allows for errors. Keep it simple & perfect your work by staying on task and bulk working.

Hope this helps! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. XO, Estee
